"Democrats want to make the rich poorer and the poor more comfortable!"

Recently in December 2020 Vice President Pence made the remark that "Democrats want to make rich people poorer and poor people more comfortable." What is wrong with that? That is what government should be doing. Helping the poor and the middle class by taxing rich people and corporations more heavily and by mandating hourly wage increases everywhere.
